Book Description
What really happened in Washington? friends asked. Unable to return to those disturbing days, Pamela Sherrod dodged the question for several years, letting her past remain a secret. Initially, she thought her strange habit of stumbling into bizarre incidents was merely coincidental. How else could one explain it? She'd camouflaged her troubled life with the trappings of success. She endured hazing to pledge the right sorority; secured the right internship at the Capitol for a closer view of power; and when she landed a job at ABC News, she put her life in jeopardy for an assignment on the right show. She dated a Saudi Arabian diplomat, befriended the children of powerful officials, and even hung out with Senate staffers who were investigated for involvement with Soviet and Cuban spies. When she married an engineering student from Asia, they looked like a contemporary version of The King and I. But, who knew the true motives of a strong-willed, middle-class, Afro-American woman, and a privileged preppie from one of Sri Lanka's highest castes? Why me? she asked of God, after the fairy tale crumbled and the dust finally settled. Why did I have to experience these things? journey toward truth, and the stunning secret that she eventually discovered.

Originally published as novellas, this paperback contains all fours parts of the story from irresistible beginning to heart-warming conclusion. Eve has always lived on Ennisfarne, an idyllic island just off the coast of Northumberland and only accessible when tides are low. There she runs a bar overlooking Darling Cove, a heavenly horseshoe-shaped beach named after her seafaring ancestors, whose links to the Farne Islands stretch back centuries. Logan is a famous photographer desperate to evade the limelight after a difficult break-up. Renting a cottage from Eve, he chooses Ennisfarne in the hope of anonymity but is immediately spellbound by its natural beauty. The pair don’t get off to the best start, butting heads over Eve’s adorable but boisterous Chocolate Labrador. But when Logan's true identity is revealed, Eve realises her new tenant isn’t quite the man she thought he was. Is it too late to start again or will Logan’s island escape be over almost before it’s begun? The brand new novel from Holly Hepburn, author of Coming Home to Brightwater Bay, will whisk you away to a sublime seaside retreat you’ll never want to leave.

Book Description
This volume provides a fascinating account of the natural forces which shaped the Island's landscape from its formation some 500 million years ago to the present nature of the Manx environment and landscape. The story of the island's colonisation by plants and animals sets the scene for the later volumes which deal with the impact of man's arrival. A key element of the volume is an in depth examination of the contemporary landscape, with an appraisal of how the environment has affected man and how man has affected the environment.

Book Description
The formidable European longsword – featuring a double-edged straight blade in excess of 40in, and capable of being used with one or both hands – remains one of the most impressive and distinctive edged weapons of the late medieval era. Also known as the 'bastard' sword and the 'hand-and-a-half' sword, the longsword evolved from the war swords and great swords of the 14th century, and emerged as a battlefield weapon in the early stages of the Hundred Years' War. It went on to become a key weapon on the battlefields of late medieval Europe, creating a new system of sword fighting. Drawing together period sources, modern technical analysis and his own experiences with the longsword, Neil Grant explores the origins, manufacture and evolving use of this iconic late-medieval edged weapon. Illustrated throughout with specially commissioned full-colour artwork and an array of period illustrations and close-up photographs, this is the enthralling story of one of late-medieval Europe's most distinctive and deadly close-combat weapons.

Book Description
In From Medieval Manuscript to Modern Practice, renowned historical swordsman Guy Windsor demystifies one of the greatest martial arts books of all time, Fiore dei Liberi's Il Fior di Battaglia (The Flower of Battle). In the late 14th century dei Liberi, an Italian knightly combat master, wrote Il Fior di Battaglia (The Flower of Battle). This magnificent, illustrated manuscript described how to fight on foot and on horseback, in armour and without, with sword, spear, pollax, dagger, or with no weapon at all. Windsor spent the last twenty years studying Fiore's work and creating a modern practice of historical swordsmanship from it. In this book, Windsor takes you through all of Fiore's longsword techniques on foot without armour. Each technique (or “play”) is shown with the drawing from the treatise, Windsor's transcription and translation of the text, his commentary on how it fits into the system and works in practice, and a link to a video of the technique in action. The book also contains a detailed introduction describing Fiore's life and times, and extensive discussion of the contexts in which Fiore's art belongs. From Medieval Manuscript to Modern Practice is essential reading for all martial artists and historians of the medieval and early Renaissance.

Book Description
When this coronavirus, SARS-CoV-19, emerged at the beginning of 2020, I didn’t worry too much about it, because I recognised it as being outside my area of control. There was nothing for me to do, so I just ignored it. Then bit by bit things started to change—the twin threats of death by plague and economic ruin came front and center into our collective awareness. As lockdown progressed it was soon obvious that many of my students were struggling. Things they depended on for their physical, mental, and economic health were simply gone. I realised that I had to focus on my core mission, which is to help my students. Normally, that means help them with their sword problems, but the whole point of practising swordsmanship is to improve your quality of life. And not all the help they needed was directly sword related. Then I thought of the things that were working for me: the mental postures learned from swordsmanship training, that were easing my way through lockdown with minimal stress. I started blogging these ideas as they came up, between March and June 2020, and before long was getting requests from readers to create a book of them. So here it is. Guy’s Lockdown Survival Guide, or, Swords in the Time of Corona. Some of the advice here is lockdown-specific, but most of it is applicable to all sorts of crises. I hope you find it useful.

Book Description
The term "e;medieval martial arts"e; conjures images of armour-clad knights wielding sword, lance and axe. While the image is correct, at the foundation of knightly combat was a sophisticated form of close quarter combat, instantly recognizable to students of classical Asian arts such as jujutsu or practitioners of modern, military combatives. At the heart of this system was fighting with - and against - the dagger, a vicious weapon of both self-defense and last resort that was dangerous to those in and out of armour alike. In Mastering the Art of Arms, Volume One: The Medieval Dagger, renowned instructor, author and researcher, Guy Windsor, presents a complete guide to the principles and practice of Italian dagger combat. Drawing from Il Fior di Battaglia, a manuscript written in 1410, students are guided step-by-step through the process of mastering this six hundred year old art, from choosing a dagger to striking with it; from guard positions to steps and turns; from disarms to locks and takedowns; from safe falling practice to formal drills, and finally sparring, or free-play.Both a primer on the art and a methodology for on-going training, this book will give the complete novice a solid starting point, while providing useful drills and ideas for advanced martial artists.
